SCORING DIRECTIONS FOR
THE HAPPINESS MEASURES (HM)

Scoring the Happiness Measures is simple. The HM yields FIVE scores, four of which are recorded just as the subject completes the one-page form.

The first four scores need no caclulation:

1. The SCALE SCORE is simply the scale number the subject checks -- a number from 0 to 10.

2. The HAPPY % SCORE is simpy the percentage number (from 0 to 100) the subject writes-in to estimate the time spent in happy moods.

3. The UNHAPPY % SCORE is simpy the percentage number (from 0 to 100) the subject writes-in to estimate the time spent in unhappy moods.

4. The NEUTRAL % SCORE is simpy the percentage number (from 0 to 100) the subject writes-in to estimate the time spent in neutral moods.

The fifth score, the COMBINATION SCORE, requires a simple calculation:

5. The COMBINATION SCORE (a combining of the scale score and the happy % estimate score in equal wieghts) is simply the Scale Score multiplied by 10, plus the Happy % Score (as written), and the total divided by 2 (to provide a Combination Score from 0 to 100) .

More details regarding the uses of these derived HM scores can be found in the Happiness Measures article (referenced on the previous page) which serves as a manual for the test.
